Danni
Danni, 12, is a dancer from Cary, North Carolina. Her dream is to someday become a Zumba instructor. Danni is also proficient in swimming, and loves yoga, barre, and gymnastics. When at home, she enjoys drawing, board games, and listening to the Grateful Dead, her family's favorite. They've been to their concert five times! Her mother Claudia says that Danni has a remarkable memory for lyrics and songs, and knows many show tunes, pop songs, and movie scores by heart. Danni is half Mexican and is learning Spanish as well. She's a loyal friend to her peers and often has sleepovers and play dates with friends from school.

As far as what kind of school setting to choose for Danni, her family at first wasn't sure which would be the best fit for her. They ultimately chose mainstreaming, which means that students with disabilities are placed in regular classrooms. Claudia says, "Understanding all children are different, and all children learn at their own pace and have differing capabilities, we cannot help but notice that Danni has developed fantastic social skills and feels very comfortable and confident in every situation."

"We feel very fortunate that Danni has been and is very healthy. She’s had tubes put in her ears she when she was young, but many typical kids do too. She has a condition called nystagmus, which causes her eyes to flutter a bit when she is tired or hasn’t worn her glasses in a while, but nothing life threatening."

Danni's family has been sure to make her feel loved and encouraged to chase her dreams. "We are very proud of Danni... She makes us laugh and smile every day and she brings color to our life. We wouldn’t trade her for anything."
